Dr. Akonye received her degree in Biology at St. Philip’s College. She then received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School, San Antonio and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical School, San Antonio.

Dr. Akonye lives in San Antonio with her husband and children.
